Cy Young Winners???

This years American League Cy Young Award Winner! No name, no face. Actually this is a distorted picture of Chris Tillman of the Baltimore Orioles whom on Wednesday night held the Mariners at bay through 6 innings giving up just one run on three hits. The final score 4-2 at Camden Yards against reigning Cy Young Award winner Felix Hernandez.

The stars of the game were Tillman who outperformed Felix to get the win, and center fielder Adam Jones who went 4 for 4 with two RBI in an inning in which Felix gave up three runs after getting two quick outs. Both Tillman and Jones were part of the 6 person team that was sent to the Orioles for Erik Bedard in the Bill Bavasi era. Just when you thought the Bavasi days were behind us... Bavasi strikes back by sending the M's 5 games below .500 and continuing their struggles against other teams bottom feeding in the American League.

Felix did not have his best stuff today, and with the amount of walks Tillman gave up, I'm sure he didn't either. The M's bats however have made the poorest of pitchers look as though they are Cy Young contenders. Tillman who started the day with an ERA in the 7's got pounded his last three times out after a successful debut, but, leave it to the Mariners offense to get him back on track. If there's one thing we've been doing right since our winning streak ended, it's helping our rival losers of the American League get out of the basement.

So, the picture of Tillman is blurred for a reason... insert any pitcher into that frame, as long as they are facing the M's, they could be the American League Cy Young Award Winner this year.

On the bright side! Saunders hit one deep! Real deep!!! Hopefully his stroke is starting to catch on. We're still not getting any clutch two out hits though. I must say, we are getting better at sac fly's though. I'll assume for now that the team is adjusting to it's new players and new lineup. I hate making excuses for MLB players, but, I'm really hoping that we'll see runs being tallied soon. After all, Cleveland is coming up!
