M's Carried By Pineda's Gem

Michael Pineda pitched an outstanding 7 innings on Monday night to break the 6 game losing streak that had the M's and us the fans reeling. Pineda gave up just 3 hits in those innings and left the game at 99 pitches, throwing 70 for strikes. This kid is amazing!!!

The offense came around tonight! Only 8 hits in the game, but they came with runners on and they went to the right parts of the field. Cust had an RBI double to right that scored Figgins all the way from first and Smoak had an RBI double that scored Ichiro from first as well. The M's received another run when Adam Kennedy went yard for a solo shot, followed by Carlos Peguero with another solo homerun. The M's finished off their scoring with a sac-fly by Adam Kennedy to score Brendan Ryan.

The ninth inning was a pure nightmare for the M's as they made 2 of their 3 errors in the inning. Figgins threw what could have been a double play ball high and into right field for the Twins to be able to get on the board and advance a runner to third. They scored their next run on an infield out and Wright was able to get out of the inning with only the 2 runs scoring. For Figgins, it was his 5th error on the season, which has to put some question marks in the minds of some. Final score 5 - 2 with the Twins getting two in the ninth off just one hit, a single.

Justin Smoak left the game with an ankle injury in the bottom of the 8th after getting walked. Let's hope that he is on the field tomorrow.

The M's tonight showed exactly how Jack Z has said this team was built. Ichiro and Figgins and their ability to get on base and guys hitting behind them that are able to drive the gaps and hit them in. If only we could be consistant at that, we would be a whole different team.
