M's Fall Further Back In Standings

Another loss for the Mariners and another game where Doug Fister got no run support. The M's scored one run in the top of the third on a Brendan Ryan double that scored Franklin Gutierrez and put Ichiro on third base. With one out, you would think that the Mariners would have came away with another run. Well, I guess if I were a betting man I would have to say the opposite at this point in the season. Adam Kennedy hit a shallow pop fly that didn't allow Ichiro to score and Justin Smoak followed with a fly ball of his own that ended the inning.

The Angels answered right back in the bottom of the third with a three spot off of Fister who ended up completing six innings just giving up those three runs.

The Mariners accumulated 6 hits on the night, 1 in the 2nd, 2 in the 3rd, 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 8th. All the hits were singles besides the double by Brendan Ryan in the third. He had two of the hits as well as Franklin Gutierrez. Ackley and Olivo had the other two. So, not a lot of offense off of Jared Weaver. Is it the fact that it's Jared Weaver? Or is it the fact that it's the Mariners vs. Jared Weaver?

Fister's record drops to 3 - 10 on the year. For a guy with a 3.09 ERA he should be atop the league leaders in wins with that kind of an ERA but simply playes for a team that cannot muster any sort of hits in consecutive fashion. I wonder if Doug goes back to the locker room and throws stuff around ever. I know I would. This is getting rediculous. Jon Lester is 10 - 4 with a 3.31 ERA for the Red Sox. Offense can do amazing things for a pitcher.

Jared Weaver leads the league in ERA with a 1.86 and is now 11 - 4 on the year, tied with Justin Verlander who has a 2.26 ERA. So, I understand that Weaver is one of the best in the league and that I shouldn't have expected the M's to go out and score 7 runs tonight, but I am really getting tired of watching guys stand on third base for an entire inning and not come in to score. I'm starting to think that there may be a curse on third base. Good things don't happen there for our team. Something to think about...

The Angels scored a couple more times in the 8th inning to make the final score 5 - 1 and send the Mariners back further into the depths of the AL West standings. Texas beat up on Oakland 6 - 0 and we lost to the Angels which puts us at 4.5 games back, a distance we have not been in a long while. Oakland drops to 9 games back as the Angels remain within 1 game.

Kyle Seager's debut was about the roughest you can get. The call to play your first MLB game and you have to fave a guy like Jared Weaver? What luck! Seager went 0 for 4 on the night, so one good thing is, his career can only get better from here on out.

Tomorrow we face off against Ervin Santana as Blake Beavan takes the hill for the Mariners in his second Major League start of his career. Let's see if he can have the same type of success against the Angels as he had against the Padres. There are going to be a lot of rookies on the field tomorrow. You gotta love that!! I know I do.
